Reading skills check

Privacy notice

Last updated August 24, 2026

DOBI Reading Program designed this free check to give Calgary families a useful starting point while collecting as little personal information as practical. This notice explains what we collect, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

Before the check, we ask for your child’s first name, age, and grade. At submission, we ask for the parent or guardian’s name, email address, and phone number. We also collect the responses you record, notes about the reliability of the session, your consent choices, and basic technical and campaign information needed to secure and understand the service.

We do not request a child’s surname, birth date, school, diagnosis, address, or language history. The check does not use a camera, microphone, or speech recording.

How we use it

We use the information to score the submitted check, create and deliver the requested report and practice package, respond to a full-assessment request, protect the service from misuse, and improve the check using de-identified service information. Results do not automatically create an enrolled student record in Lexical.

Permission to deliver the requested report is separate from permission to send optional news or follow-up marketing. The marketing choice is unchecked by default and can be withdrawn at any time. This separation supports Canada’s anti-spam consent requirements.

Service providers and processing

We use Render for website and PostgreSQL database hosting, Resend for transactional email delivery, and Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection at final submission. These providers process information only to provide their services to us. Some information may be processed or stored outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of the country where it is processed.

Assessment and private-result pages load no advertising pixels or third-party analytics. Cloudflare Turnstile is loaded only on the final submission step when bot protection is configured.

How long we keep it

Private report links expire after 30 days. Identifiable child responses and results for families who do not become clients are deleted or anonymized after 90 days. We may keep a minimal record of consent or an assessment request for legal and operational needs. That record can include the consent wording version, date, choices, and a protected one-way email digest that lets us verify a particular consent without retaining the address itself. If your family enrols, information needed to provide the service will be handled as part of your client record.

Your choices and rights

You may ask to access or correct your personal information, withdraw optional marketing consent, or ask a question about our privacy practices. Withdrawing permission does not affect uses that already occurred with valid permission or records we must retain by law.
