Helpful information, with clear limits

This short check samples a few foundational reading skills. It does not diagnose dyslexia, determine a reading age or grade level, or replace DOBI’s full assessment. A complete picture of reading uses several kinds of information over time.

We keep the questions minimal.

We do not ask for a surname, birth date, school, diagnosis, address, or language history. There is no speech recording, microphone, or camera.

Designed for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6.

SESSION 2 · SAY–TAP–MAP

Everything the parent needs is written out.

1. What you need: Three coins or buttons and the sound-box page.

2. MODEL — Adult says: “Watch me: at is /ă/ /t/.” This teaching item is not counted.

3. TOGETHER: Tap in once together, then put it aside.

4. CHILD PRACTICE — Your child: Tries up, on, am, it. Only these words count in NO HELP or MODEL.
